The Chrisman City Council held their first meeting of the new year on Tuesday, January 3rd, with Mayor Danny Owen absent.
The meeting began with approval of the previous meeting minutes as well as claims in the amount of $63,699.21.
The building permit requested for 403 East Lincoln was approved.
In matters of unfinished business, Commissioner Bryan Haddix told the council to table the Epps Building issue.
“Can we table that indefinitely?” Haddix said. “If we decided to do something, can we put that back on?”
City Clerk Lela Ramey said that it was possible and the matter could be taken off the agenda for the next meeting.
The unfinished business concerning the water boy and the replacement of the mechanism was tabled until the next meeting.
Commissioner Thad Crispin had reached Mr. Hutchings about the storm drainage, but hadn’t received any word back.
“I meant to call him today. I never got time, but I will call him tomorrow,” Crispin said.
In new business, the WWTP Loan, that had been approved at 2.15 million dollars has now had an interest rate change. The amount of the change was unknown at the time of the meeting as emails have not been sent by the bank on the changes.
“So, we’re just waiting for information to come back and we may or may not have to vote on this,” said Commissioner Cory Chaney.
Chaney was acting as Mayor in the absence of Mayor Owen.
Commissioner Haddix mentioned that all of the engineering fees for the lift station should be paid.
“We’re now paying on the design of the new plant for the next phase,” Haddix said.
The city will be reimbursed for the cost of this. Any time a bill is paid out of the engineering cost, it’s sent to the USDA and the city is reimbursed at a later time.
In the spring, the city will have the names placed on the Veteran’s Memorial and the tuck point on the band stand fixed.
In other news, the new salt building construction has been completed. Commissioner Crispin questioned how long they had to wait to put the salt on the newly laid concrete floor and the city will be looking into it – and possibly putting a sealer on it to protect it before putting the salt on it.
Commissioner Haddix stated that he would be in touch with Lucas Knight of Knight Insurance about the additional building and vehicles that needed to be added to the insurance plan that wasn’t included.
In another matter, Commissioner Chaney said that he received a quote from a contractor to replace the two interior doors of the city building.
The Christmas lights on the poles have been taken down with the help of the City of Paris. Once the ground is a bit more firm, Eric Lewsader of Lewsader Electric will assist the city in the taking down of the Christmas Tree in City Park.
