On October 2nd, 2022, a family was forever changed. Lee Hall, his wife Felisha, and their daughter, Madison, were killed in a head on collision just after midnight at the intersection of Catlin-Indianola Road.
The Hall family were on their way home to Oxford, Indiana from the Charleston Speedway after Lee placed third in the Factory Stock Fall Nationals. The family’s Silverado was struck by a southbound GMC Sierra, driven by Austin Anthony.
Anthony was charged with Aggravated DUI and death of 2+. Anthony entered a plea of not guilty in November 2022. If convicted, Austin faces a mandatory prison term of six to twenty-eight years.
Joe Buyno, Felisha’s brother, and his wife Brittany have been working on a way to keep their niece’s memory alive as well as her parents.
The Buyno Family adopted a two mile stretch of road from just outside of Indianola to Timberline Farms, just north of the crash site.
“We want this area to always be beautiful and pure as our loved ones were,” the family said in a Facebook post.
Madison was active in the Benton Central FFA and the Indiana FFA. Through her experiences in the organization, she was about to earn several scholarships that helped her pay her tuition to Purdue, where she was set to begin this year.
The Buyno Family started the Madison G. Hall FFA Scholarship that will be awarded to a senior with the same passion for FFA that Madison had at Benton Central Jr/Sr. High School.
Madison was the FFA District Treasurer for 2021 and 2022. She won first place in the FFA Persuasive Essay District Leadership Development Event in 2022. Hall was in the Super High Mileage Club, where she was crew chief and driver, Photography Club, Academic Bowl, Spanish National Honor Society and Honor Society.
Madison was also a ten year 4-H member in Benton County. Over those years, she showed several classes of rabbits, then moved up to Boer goats. She had several other projects and posters in electricity that went on to the Indiana State Fair.
The Boer goats became her favorite to show, picking up where her brother, Lee Joseph Hall Jr, left off in 4-H. Madison put so much time and effort into the care of the goats, from getting up early in the mornings to late night birthings. She bottle fed several goats over the years.
Her list of accomplishments in 4-H is remarkable. She won Grand Champion in Creative Writing in 2019 and 2021; Grand Champion 4-H Boer Doe Goat 2017, 2018, 2019; Grand Champion Commercial Doe 2021 and 2022; Reserve Grand Champion Full Blooded Doe 2022; Grand Champion Bottle Raised 2022; 2022 Goats Herdsmanship; Best Decorated Stall Award; Grand Champion Electric 2020 and 2022; Best of Show Goat 2019 and 2021 and Reserve Best of Show 2022.
On her Senior Awards Night, Madison showed how hard she worked to get her college paid for on her own. Madison won Outstanding Agricultural Senior Award; Outstanding Language Art Student, Martin Luther King Jr State Essay Finalist; Super High Milage Scholarship; BC Technology Scholarship; Benton County Extension Homemakers Scholarship; Benton Education Association Scholarship; Boswell Alumni Scholarship; Martin Glick Family Farms Scholarship; James P. Brouillette Agricultural Scholarship; Council for Academics Excellence Award; Elizabeth Davis- Ellis Scholarship; Technical Honors Diploma; Academic Honors Diploma and a 4.0 GPA.
Madison was accepted into Purdue University where she would’ve been studying Agriculture and Education. The Purdue College of Agriculture Scholarships include Wayne and Barbara Jennings Memorial Scholarship; J. Kelly O’Neall and Margaret Richey O’Neill Memorial Scholarships and Charlotte Ann Russell Scholarship.
The Buyno Family will be hosting the 1st Annual Madison Hall Scholarship Memorial Car Show on Sunday, May 7th, 2023 at the Benton County Fairgrounds in Boswell, Indiana. All cars from antiques to race cars are welcome to attend. More information will be available at a later date.
