On December 9th, the Chrisman Cardinals Basketball team hosted the Iroquois West Raiders in their home opener. Both the parking lot and the gym was packed to see this match up. The atmosphere in the gym was one of excitement as the Cardinals took the court.
For the Junior Varsity boys, the Raiders took an early 12-3 lead over the Cardinals. In the beginning of the second quarter, after sinking a three pointer, Chrisman’s Landen Alexander went down with an apparent ankle injury.
The game continued as he was tended to on the bench. The Cards would trail Iroquois West 29-15 going into halftime.
In the third quarter, Statler Mitchell, Leiland Board and Hayden Spesard were able to give the Cards three points, but that did little to the Raiders lead of 40-19.
In the fourth, Mitchell scored nine for the birds, but the deficit was too much as Iroquois West came away with a 53-30 victory over the Cardinals.
For Chrisman, Statler Mitchell led with sixteen points, followed by Hayden Spesard with six. Leiland Board and Landen Alexander finished with three points each. Brayden Stiff ended the game with two points.

Nothing could break the Cardinals’ stride in the third as they continued their comeback mission. Three pointers by Colton Brazelton and Rogan Maloney kept the Cards in the game with a score of 36-27, Raiders lead.
Just as quick as they gained momentum, it was lost. The Raiders began to get more physical, this accompanied by foul shots and getting inside their own heads resulted in a Cardinal loss of 51-34.

For Iroquois West, Tyler Reed led with twenty-one points, followed by Sam McMillian with seventeen. Evan Izquierdo, Tyler Munts and Kyle Manahan each had three points. Damian Alvarado ended the game with two points, followed by Jace Pankey with one point.
