Rachel and Adam Harms are a busy couple. In addition to being very involved in the livestock industry, raising two boys with another baby on the way, Rachel has her own crafting business.
“I have always loved crafting and making anything I can,” Rachel told us.
Both Harms’ mother and grandma had a crafty side and continued the tradition with Rachel.
For almost two years, she has been running ‘Rural Redhead’.
“I was trying to make it an off chute of my mom’s business ‘Rachel’s Red Barn’ that we ran for many years,” Rachel said. “When Rural Redhead came up, it was so perfect considering our rural background and my red hair.”
Harms makes custom apparel, along with tumblers and hand towels. “I truly enjoy creating custom pieces you wouldn’t find anywhere else or something with your logo or business,” Harms said. “I spend almost as much time researching and experimenting as I do filling orders so that I can keep my business growing.”
Some of the designs that Rachel comes up with she creates herself, others she purchases, depending on what the customer is wanting.
“In the near future, I’m planning to add embroidery to the design options to allow my customers another option for custom designs.”
Normal turn around time is currently ten to fourteen days being that Rachel creates everything herself with a few helpful friends.
With the upcoming arrival of the couple’s third baby, turn around time will slow down for the next few months.
“I make every order as needed, but I do keep a few blanks on hand, but not a ton,” Harms said. “Custom orders is mostly what my business is. I don’t keep many products listed on my site because I spend most of my time creating custom designs.”
Rachel and ‘Rural Redhead’ will be at the upcoming Bloomfield Barn event on Saturday, December 3rd from 9:00 a.m to 3:00 p.m.
Rachel will be bringing some blank shirts as well as certain designs for you to be able to create your own piece and she will make it for you there!
If you can’t make it to the event, you can find her on Facebook, Instagram or send her an email at ruralredheadboutique@gmail.com
