Cardinals season begins at Turkey Tournament

The Chrisman High School Cardinals basketball team hit the court to begin the 2022-2023 season on November 21st at the Tri-County Turkey Tournament. Robert Lorenzen also made his debut as the new High School Boys Basketball coach.
Lorenzen was the former coach of the Chrisman-Scottland Junior High Eagles as well as the Georgetown Buffaloes High School team.
In the first match of the tournament, the Chrisman Cardinals were set to take on Judah Christian. In the first quarter, the Tribe took a 15-10 lead over the Cards.
In the second, Judah continued to hold on to their lead with a score of 34-20 going into half time.
In the third, Chrisman knocked the Tribe’s lead down to just six points with a score of 47-41.
The Cards would come up just four points shy of a first game victory with a score of 60-56.
Nic Eddy led with twenty-six points, followed by Colton Brazelton with fourteen. Triston Lemkuhl and Chris Francis had eight points each.
On the 22nd, the Cards were paired against the Oakwood Comets. Oakwood took the lead early on with a first quarter score of 16-7.
In the second, the Comets kept firing off shots, giving them a 38-14 lead going into halftime.
In the second half, the Comets continued to put pressure on the Cardinals, which resulted in a 66-36 loss for the birds.
Colton Brazelton led with eleven points, followed by Nic Eddy with nine. Triston Lehmkuhl and Gavin McCord had five points each. Hayden Spesard ended the game with three points. Chris Francis had two points and Gage Tingley had one.
The next game would be against the Villa Grove Blue Devils. This time, it was the Cardinals who took an early lead with a score of 20-9 at the end of the first. In the second, the Cards added another twenty-one points. Chrisman lead Villa Grove 41-23 going into halftime.
In the third, the birds added another seventeen, almost finishing off the Blue Devils with a third quarter score of 58-35.
In the fourth, the Blue Devils proved they couldn’t be kept down, but it was too little too late as the Chrisman Cardinals got their first victory of the season with a final score of 68-61.
Nic Eddy led with twenty points, followed by Triston Lehkuhl with thirteen. Colton Brazelton and Gavin McCord finished with twelve points and Chris Francis had eleven.
After taking a Thanksgiving Day break, the Cardinals were back on the court to take on the Tri-County Titans on November 25th.
In the first quarter, the Titans took a 13-7 lead over the Cardinals. In the second, the Titans continued to lead with a score of 26-19 going into halftime.
In the third, Chrisman put up ten points, but the Tri-County lead only continued to grow with a score of 43-29. In the fourth, the Cards attempted to come back, but the deficit was too much, resulting in a 59-35 loss for the Cardinals.
Nic Eddy led with seventeen points, followed by Triston Lehmkuhl with ten. Chris Francis ended the game with six points, followed by Colton Brazelton with two.
The final match of the tournament had the Chrisman Cardinals facing the Martinsville Bluestreaks. In the first, Chrisman took an early 15-11 lead. By the end of the second quarter, the Bluestreaks tied the game, 22-22.
In the third quarter, the Bluestreaks took a 39-28 lead over the Cardinals. In the fourth, Chrisman fought with all they had, but Martinsville took the victory with a final score of 49-40.
Nic Eddy led with sixteen points, followed by Triston Lehmkuhl and Gage Tingley with six points each. Chris Francis ended the game with five points, followed by Rogan Maloney with three. Hayden Spesard and Gavin McCord had two points each.
