Chrisman’s Sesquicentennial Plans Coming Together

The Chrisman Area Community Club along with the Chrisman Sesquicentennial Committee have been hard at work planning the town’s 150 year celebration. This year, instead of the three day celebration for Chrisman Days, it will take place from September 8th to 11th.
Though nothing is set in stone in terms of the celebration activities, an outline has been drafted up.
On Thursday, September 8th, plans will begin at 9:00 a.m. with vendors being in the park all day. At 10:00 a.m., an opening day is set to be in City Park with the American Legion performing at the flag raising.
Mayor Danny Owen will be speaking along with Pastor Troy Warner offering a prayer and the Chrisman students singing patriotic songs and the Chrisman High School Band playing.
At 11:00 a.m., a sack lunch for the students will be held on the lawn of City Park. 12:00 p.m. will be for the Antique Tractors between the Chrisman Post Office and City Office. A tree is also set to be planted in the park.
A Chicken Noodle Dinner by the Ministerial Association at the Chrisman American Legion will be held at 4:00 p.m. Square Dance Club will also be on the cake walk area. From 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. the Firemen’s and Community Club raffles will take place.
At 6:00 p.m., the meal will end with Brother of the Brush contest taking place on the Cake Walk area. Logan & Lacy Kirby will be performing at the Bandstand. At 6:30, the time capsule that was buried in 1972 will be dug up and opened by Mark Wyatt. At 7:00 p.m., Little Miss and Mr. Chrisman contest will take place. Festivities are set to end at 8:00 p.m. that day.
On Friday, September 9th, Garage sales are set to begin at 8:00 a.m. A three on three basketball tournament is in the works to begin at 8:00 a.m. as well. Vendors will also be in the park beginning at 9:00 a.m. and Antique Tractors at 10:00 a.m.
A History of Chrisman Display will be set up that will include the sale of Sesquicentennial books, registration of attendees and hospitality room will be held at a place to be determined at a later time. Plans are in the works of having a Monster Truck display beginning at 4:00 p.m. that day. A car show will also begin at 4:00 along with the Fireman’s and Community Club Raffle ticket sales.
The Firemen’s Bean Dinner will take place at 4:30 p.m. with Battle Creek Band performing at 5:00 p.m.
Festivities on Saturday, September 10th will begin with a Pancake and Sausage Breakfast at the American Legion beginning at 7:00 a.m. A 5K is set to begin at 8:00 a.m. and garage sales will take place all day.
Vendors will also be City park and a Baby Contest is set to take place at 9:00 a.m. Chrisman Farm Center will host their annual Kiddie Tractor Pull at 10:00 a.m. with the HCE Baking Contest taking place at the same time.
The Chrisman Band Boosters will hold their annual Cake Walk at 11:00 a.m., along with the Judging of the HCE Baking Contest and the fish fry.
At noon, a Corn Hole Tournament will take place in front of the Chrisman American Legion in memory of Tin Hollingsworth. The tournament will take place until 3:00 p.m. Also at noon, the petting zoo, face painting and safe house will take place. Activities will end at 2:00 p.m.
At 1:00 p.m., the Pony tail Contest will take place. A History of Chrisman display will be on display again beginning at 2:00 p.m. Firemen and Community Club Raffle Tickets will also be sold from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The parade will being at 3:00 p.m. Entries can register from 12:30 p.m. to 2:50 p.m. At 4:00 p.m., a Food Auction will take place on the Bandstand. The second fish fry from the Firemen will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tractor pulls will also take place in Centennial Park.
Jake Hoult Band will be performing on the bandstand from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Drawings for the Firemen’s and Community Club raffle will take place at 7:00 p.m. Announcement of oldest, youngest, and farthest distance traveled will also take place.
Fireworks at the park are set to take place at 9:00 p.m.
On Sunday, September 11th, a combined worship service in City Park will begin at 10:00 a.m. At 11:00 a.m., Box Lunches that will need to be ordered in advance or Bring Your Own in the City Park will follow the worship services.
At noon, a Gospel Sing by Ministerial Association will follow lunch. An ice cream social following Gospel Sing sponsored by Horizon Heath will take place at 1:00 p.m.
Closing Ceremony with the Chrisman American Legion, a speech by CACC president Dan Moore will take place and Pastor Ken Crawford will end the ceremony with a prayer at 2:00 p.m.
