Mrs. Dorothy Rogers, General Chairman of the Chrisman Area Centennial, pointed out the need for all committees to push ahead these final months at the large meeting held last week.
Approximately 100 persons attended the get-together of committee heads and sub chairman at a chili supper served by the Chrisman seniors at the high school.
Mrs. Rogers pointed out many things to those that were gathered. A fund drive would begin in the very near future with stock certificates being sold.
These will bear no interest, but will enable the Centennial to have some working capital. The committee will be string to return most of the money on your investment at the end of the affair. She also pointed out that many might want to keep them for mementos to pass on to another generation.
“Bob Ingram,” she said, “Should be contacted for decorations for store fronts and float rentals.”
Division chairman Sam Scott in charge of Revenue, would be selling ads for the Centennial and Booklet would be in charge of the carnival and concession.
Dale Carico should be contact for local stands to be erected.
Chairman Rogers pointed out that “Everyone in the community should be encouraged to take some part in this event. It only happens once in a lifetime to those that are with us today.”
She emphasized the need of all committees to let Ron Bolen, Public Chairman, know of any activity in their group.
As to policy of the Centennial Celebration she added the following remarks “We should not ask the public to do what we don’t”. She meant by this that all of us would be required to pay for anything we received relative to the Centennial. Such as no free passes-no free souvenirs or ties, bonnets etc.
“There are Target dates set down by the Rogers Co. And we must adhere to these or our invested money and their advice are wasted,” she said.
All merchants were urged to accept no orders for things for the Centennial unless same is submitted by a requisition slip that is signed by the Div. Chairman and a board member. The white copy to the supplier, pink to the headquarter chairman, Julia Boone and the blue to Don Tate, Treasurer of the Centennial.
Postmaster Bob Bennett said that approval for a cancellation die for the Centennial had been received and that after March 1st all mail leaving the Chrisman Post Office will have the same affixed.
Mr. Ernie Moore of Allerton, showed movies of the 1955 Centennial at Homer. They are not only good and very informative, but Mr. Moore was quite entertaining with his presentation. The audience was very appreciative of his bringing this film to our attention.
Committee heads had been urged to turn in their committees whereas same could be entered in the Chair of Organization hanging in the post office lobby.
