Chrisman Class of 2022 graduate Maecy Johnson has signed with Vincennes University.
On March 18th, members of Johnson’s family and friends gathered at the Chrisman High School gym to see her officially become a member of the Trailblazer’s Volleyball team.
During her playing days at Chrisman, Maecy was a three time Vermilion Valley All Conference selection and a special mention honor as a Freshman.
Johnson led in blocks in all four years of play, kills and aces twice, and digs twice.
However, her Senior year, Johnson led in all four categories. Maecy ended her Lady Cardinals career with 198 digs, 194 kills, 66 blocks and 29 aces. Johnson was also a member of the team who won the Hutsonville-Palestine Tournament Championship.
“Maecy is an all around athlete. She is a talented athlete on the court and a great student off the court,” said her coach Rose Hollingsworth.
In addition to being the Volleyball Captain, Maecy was also the Softball Team Captain & Cheer Co-Captain. She’s also been involved in STEM Club, FCA, President of the FFA and 4-H.
Maecy’s plans are to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree from Vincennes University, majoring in Agribusiness with an Urban Agriculture concentration.
Being one of the best colleges in the area for agriculture, Vincennes was the perfect choice for Johnson.
“They have a really good Ag program and a really good volleyball team, so it was a win win situation,” Maecy said.
Johnson’s six foot tall stature and academic achievements led head coach, Gary Sien to pursue her as a recruit.
“We have a number of players come to us. As you can imagine, we have a ton of interest, but we look at certain levels of athletes,” Sien said. “With Maecy, she fits into a couple of different roles here.”
With Johnson’s athletic ability, she will be able to hold the position of middle/opposite hitter/setter. “We’re excited to have someone like her.”
