Gloria Jean Simpson

Gloria Jean Simpson, 79, of Chrisman, Illinois, passed away at 11:59 a.m. Sunday, February 27, 2022, at Carle BroMenn Medical Center in Normal, Illinois. She was a homemaker and had previously worked at the former Zenith Company of Paris, Illinois.
She was born December 12, 1942, in Horace, Illinois, the daughter of the late George William and Ellen (Southard) Porter. She married Ralph Edward Simpson, Sr., on October 25, 1974, in Montezuma, Indiana, and he survives.
Other survivors include eight children, Bradley Porter, Angela (Clifford) Huffman, and Ralph (Casey) Simpson Jr. all of Chrisman, Eric (Star) Simpson of Mahomet, Illinois, Bradley Simpson of Rantoul, Illinois, Denise Baker of Toledo, Illinois, Bobbie (Jim) Woolbright of Mattoon, Illinois, and Sheri Simpson of Champaign, Illinois; two brothers, Allen Porter of Terre Haute, Indiana, and Jerry Porter of Dana, Indiana; two sisters, Georgia Meyers of Crawfordsville, Indiana, and Patsy Bedinger of Newport, Indiana; ten grandchildren, Joseph Totten, Michael and Danika Huffman, Jasper and Ainsley Simpson, Erika Simpson, Taylor Newman, Amy Johnson, Travis Simpson, and Amanda Grimes; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by a brother, John David Porter; and two grandchildren, Jacob and Jaren Porter.
Mrs. Simpson was a member of Chrisman Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed being busy and on the go, whether working in her vegetable garden, helping with recycling, or supporting her many family members in their various activities. Gloria will be remembered as a loving, welcoming, and accepting person who was generous with her time, her garden produce, and with her many gifts to the Chrisman and Scottland Easter Egg hunts each year. She prided herself in being a professional shopper and couponer, and she was willing to travel out of her way to chase a good deal. Most of all, Gloria loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
For those who wish, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Chrisman Church of the Nazarene.
Services celebrating her life will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2022, at the Chrisman Church of the Nazarene, with Pastor Cory Swinderman officiating. Burial will follow in Light – Mt. Carmel Cemetery near Scottland, Illinois. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church.
