The month of December was a roller coaster for the Chrisman Cardinals Basketball team. The team began the month on the road with a game against the Heritage Hawks.
In the first quarter, the Hawks took an early 17-8 lead against the Cardinals. In the second, the Chrisman Cardinals began to close in on Hawks, but Heritage kept a 25-19 lead going into halftime. In the third, the Cardinals made their move, capturing a 38-35 lead.
In the fourth, the battle for the victory began, but it was the Cardinals who came out on top with a 53-48 victory over Heritage. The road trip continued on December 14th to Cissna Park to take on the Timberwolves. Chrisman fell to Cissna Park with a final score of 63-37.
On December 21st, the Cardinals hosted the Salt Fork Storm. Games between the pair have gained popularity and are marked on the calendar as one to attend. In the first quarter, the Storm took a 17-2 lead over the Cardinals. In the second, Salt Fork held the Cardinals to twelve as they extended their lead 36-14 going into halftime.
In the second half, Salt Fork began to pick up strength as they held the Cardinals to six points in both the third and fourth quarter. Salt Fork defeated Chrisman with a final score of 68-26.
Colton Brazelton led with eight points, followed by Dyas Miller and Marion Cronkhite with six points each.
On December 28th, the Chrisman Cardinals participated in the Tri-County Titans Holiday Tournament. In the first match of the tournament, Chrisman took on the host, the Tri-County Titans.
In the first, Tri-County took a marginal 13-10 lead over the Cardinals.
In the second, Chrisman was held to just six points while the Titans added eighteen.
Going into halftime, the Titans had a 31-16 lead over Chrisman. In the third, the Titans held the Cards to single digits with nine points. The Titans held on to a 53-25 lead going into the fourth.
In the fourth quarter, the Titans lead was too much for the Cardinals to overcome with a final score of 64-30.
On December 29th, the Cardinals were paired against Stew-Straus/Windsor for their next match. The Cardinals struggles were made apparent in the first quarter, sinking just one foul shot. The Hatchets led Chrisman 16-1.
In the second, Stew-Straus added twenty points to their already large lead, while holding the Cardinals to just ten. Going into halftime, the Cardinals trailed 36-11.
In the second half, the Cardinals were held to just twelve points, resulting in a loss for Chrisman with a final score of 73-23.
During the tournament, Chrisman would defeat Deland-Weldon with a final score of 55-21, but would fall to the Judah Christina Tribe (63-59), Villa Grove Blue Devils (58-52) and defeated Deland-Weldon again with a final score of 60-35.
On December 30th, the Cardinals took on a new team, the Aregnta-Oreana Bombers. In the first quarter, the Bombers gave the Cardinals quite the welcome with a score of 24-6. In the second, the Cardinals were held to five points, going into halftime, the Bombers led the Cardinals with a score of 41-11.
In the third, the Bombers continued to hold onto their lead with a score of 51-25. In the fourth, the Bombers lead and their ability to jolt the Cardinals, resulting in a loss of 62-35.
At the conclusion of the month of December, the Cardinals were 3-10 overall and 0-2 in the Vermilion Valley Conference.
