The former office of Doctor Hildebrand will now be the home to a new salon owned by Sarah Mills.
Mills has been involved in cosmetology since 2009. “I started working right after cosmetology school with my friend Debbie Hale at her salon on the Chrisman square,” Mills said.
The pair worked together for six years until Hale decided to sell the salon. Mills opened a salon in Danville named ‘Vintage Gypsy’ in 2016.
Over time, driving back and forth become a hassle and some changes had happened in her life.
“I had just become a mom,” Mills said. “It just made sense to close that salon and come back to work in Chrisman to be closer to home.”
Mills soon began working with Hillary Coe at her salon on the corner of Rt. 36 & Rt. 1. Although she was doing a job that she loved, having her own business was something she still wanted. “I missed having my own business and an opportunity presented itself that would’ve been silly to pass on,” Mills said.
Mills recently purchased the former office of dentist Darlene Hildebrandt. Making a dentist office into a hair salon is a huge task, but Mills hit the ground running.
“The process can be a long one, but so far everything is going well,” Mills said. “Lots of remodeling in the works and I’m very excited to show everyone the new space.”
Plans for the new salon is to be opened by the first of the year. At first, Mills will start the business herself, but plans to have other beauty professionals join at a later date.
The old exam rooms are going to be turned into salon suites.
“Each person will have their own space to work in,” Mills said. “I am also hoping to offer shopping opportunities at a later date and I would like to have an esthetician or a massage therapist join the team in the future,” Mills told us.
Until the salon is open, Mills will continue to work with Coe at her salon space. Mills currently offers a variety of hair services like haircuts, color, hair extensions along with facial waxing and spray tanning.
