Laken Prisecaru
Picasso said ‘every child is an artist’. For Laken Prisecaru, this is a quote that she lives by.
“She was always involved in some kind of creativity,” Laken’s mother, Renee said. “Including creating videos, painting, paper and hot glue crafts and sewing.”
Though she’s serious and mature for her age, Laken loves to be silly and have fun. “She likes playing the xylophone/bell kit in band and at home,” Renee said. “Lately, she just learned ‘Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy’.”
Laken also likes playing basketball with her dad Val and cooking and baking.
From a young age, her parents Renee and Val exposed her to the arts, including museums and learning about artists.
“She’s always shown a keen interest in art until about two years ago when she got really serious with acrylic painting,” Renee said.
A year ago, Laken switched to reference drawings and pencil portraits. “She quickly realized that the more time she would spend on drawing, the better it would look,” Prisecaru said. “She loves drawing portraits. She seems to have a knack of capturing a person’s spirit in the drawing.”
Since beginning her drawings, Laken has learned portions, blending, tone and shading.
In addition to drawing, Laken also does acrylic, pour and water color painting. When she grows up, Laken wants to become a full time artist with her own gallery. She also wants to learn how to blow glass art. “If she could attend college art classes now, she most certainly would,” Prisecaru said.
For her inspiration, Laken finds in it space. She loves color and matter floating around in the abyss and is inspired by nature with the way natural things form and how the colors of nature are usually toned down and peaceful in their appearance.
“She loves faces, structure of faces and all the tiny details in them.” As for her favorite artists, Laken likes Callen Schaub, Jackson Pollock and Bob Ross.
Following her dream of owning her own gallery, Laken has done a few events including the school art show and the 4-H fair.
“She did her first commissioned drawing for a nurse practitioner’s office. She would love to do more commissioned drawings.”
