Bentley Alexander takes first place in the 5th grade race at the Chrisman Cow Chip Classic
The pre-Chrisman Days Celebrations kicked off with the Junior High Cross Country runners competing in the Cow Chip Classic.
This year, it was back to normal as everyone was allowed to compete at the same time, rather than in sections.
On September 3rd, it was the Junior High Cross Country runners who took the course. The weather was perfect for the 4:30 p.m. start time. The fifth grade boys only had two runners competing in Bentley Alexander and Casen Rogers.
From the start, Alexander kept an eye on the runners in front of him, slowly making his way into the lead. By the first corner, he was already quite a distance ahead of his competition.
Alexander came across the finish line first with a time of 13:44.3, ten seconds ahead of the second place runner. Rogers finished with a time of 17:05.7.
For the sixth grade boys, Carter Swinderman finished with a time of 17:38.2, followed by Jasper Simpson with a time of 17:54.7 and Gavin Ruff with a time of 17:54.7. For the sixth grade girls, Lily Crawford finished with a time of 15:52.0. Autumn Ellis had a time of 22:15.2.
For the eighth grade boys, Seth Ellis had a time of 13:06.1. Gage Tingley crossed the finish line with a time of 15:16.2 and Amos Neal ended the race with a time of 16:51.7. For the eighth grade girls, Leah Phipps finished in sixteenth with a time of 14:42.8. Ellie Lorton had a time of 21:15.4.
Before the High School Cow Chip Classic began on September 4th, rain showers were expected all day, but the only rule in Cross Country is ‘no running in lightning’.
As the course slowly began to flood and the grass became a muddy mess, the runners took to the course.
In Flight 4, John Phipps finished in tenth with a time of 20:18.2. In Flight 5, Karson Lewsader also placed tenth with a time of 20:52.7. In Flight 6, Triston Lehmkuhl crossed the finish line in tenth with a time of 21:50.6. In Flight 7, Isaiaha Cope finished seventh with a time of 21:33.4.
This year, the Chrisman Cross Country team partnered with Got Sneakers? To raise money and recycle shoes. Anyone who had unwanted shoes were able to bring them to the Northwest corner of the school building near the cross country course to drop them off. The school bagged up the donated shoes and shipped them to Got Sneakers? to keep them from ending up in landfills.
Great job to all of the runners who participated in this year’s Cow Chip Classic!
