Last week, members of the Chrisman community noticed flyers around town for a ‘Fun Day’ scheduled for August 28th at City Park. No name was available, just an invite to join in on the fun.
The flyers were handed out by members of the Sidell Assembly United Pentecostal Church, led by Pastor Tim Pearman. Tim has been a Pastor in Sidell for twenty-four years.
The idea for a fun day was brought to him by one of his assistant pastors.
“He felt the desire to host the Fun Day in the park events around our area as a means to bless communities with a family oriented event,” Pearman told us. “Meant to bring people together, meet new people and show them the love of Jesus.”
The event was sponsored by others who donated funds along with the church to provide the blow-ups, prizes, food and money for the free drawings.
“We already had one event in Broadlands, Illinois that reached to the surrounding area,” Pearman said. “We are planning another in September in Georgetown.”
The final event of the year will be held in Sidell, which will be a bigger event that will invite all of the surrounding communities to attend. The final day will also host a $1,000 cash drawing.
“We are not requiring anything out of the people that come other than to register for the drawing.”
If these events draw a large crowd, the plan is to continue them on a yearly basis. Though this depends on finances and availability.
“The whole church is involved and most of them come out to help,” Pearman said.
The main people involved in the events are Pastor Tim Pearman and his wife Zena; Assistant Pastors Wes & Kendra Taylor; Sunday school director Lisa Johnson; Youth Directors Mitchell and Marissa Lucas; FCA Director Vicky McCarty and Head of Security Rick Thomas.
